D-Camps | Canadian Diabetes Association | In Print

This one just landed on my desk. I shot part of this campaign for the D-Camps launch at the Canadian Diabetes Association back in June with Jamie, a current camper at my former summer residence, Camp Huronda. We had to fake a camp setting in the city, so a quick trip to the Don Valley made for a great ‘outdoorsy’ location. Half way through the shoot the clouds opened up and started pouring buckets of rain. Fortunately, Jamie was a camper and not a high-end fashion model, so playing in the rain and mud was just like any other day at camp.

Shout out to the guys at K9 Design Co for the layout and graphics work.

Jamie recently had the opportunity to present former Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney, with a framed photo in appreciation of his support of the D-Camps program. The photo in question… shot back in 2008 while working up at Camp Huronda.

Base Camp X | The Pioneer Axe

After proposing to my girlfriend, giving her the ring she’s always wanted… I thought, hey, guys don’t get engagement rings, may as well get myself something nice to celebrate!

That’s when a friend sent me a link to Base Camp X. Turns out I had already seen their product over the summer while visiting the Taylor Statten Camps. All of the section directors were given these fine tools a couple of years back and only then did I make the connection between those axes and Graeme’s fine work.

Usually when I show cool stuff on the internet to my fiancée, I get shot down immediately. This time, she was just as stoked as I was. I knew she was on board. She worked with Graeme to make a slight modification, adding the date of our engagement. Graeme worked with Adam Gorham, a freelance comic artist out of Mississauga to handle the lettering.

When it arrived, my jaw dropped at the pure quality of this tool. I knew a photo was in order before taking this thing into the wild and putting it to work. I plan to have another photo of this axe in 50 years.

Phase One IQ180 | Algonquin Park, ON

For the second year in a row, I decided to grab the camera with the greatest image quality available to me on the market, and take it up to Algonquin Park at the peak of fall, just to see what could be achieved. Last year, I took the Hasselblad H4D-40 with a 28mm F/4, 80mm F/2.8 and the 150mm F/3.2, and you can see some of the photos from that trip here. This year, I went to the ‘other’ side. The guys at B3K Digital in Toronto got me outfitted with a Phase One 645DF, IQ180 digital back, 28mm F/4 LS and 80mm F/2.8 LS.

Here are some photos from the three day trip over the Thanksgiving weekend, traveling across Highway 60 and camping at Rock Lake.
