Managed to get my hands on the first Nikon 35mm f1.4 AFs available for rent at Vistek in Toronto. Took it for a walk around the neighborhood to see just what it could do for me. No lens tests, resolution charts, corner sharpness pixel peeping. I was looking for quick focusing, solid flare control and a focal length I liked. I tried the new 24mm f1.4 AFs a few weeks ago, but the focal length wasn’t doing it for me and it seemed to be awfully slow to lock on to a subject for such a wide lens. Much slower than I’d expect of a $2000 lens. The 35mm however was a solid performer, much faster to lock on, and image quality is great. Where’d I put that credit card?
